Merry Christmas 2023 from Greencrow

Two weeks before Christmas I made these three Tomtens [Swedish Gnomes] out of logs from a tree felled near our Malahat property. I used red felt, brown fabric backing and cotton stuffing as well. This was a time consuming project and kept me from doing other things…like blogging.

A belated Merry Christmas to all my wonderful and loyal subscribers! We had a very intense and positive family gathering here at our Malahat, Vancouver Island cabin. Our little street is lit up like Broadway with Christmas lights, showing up the three other streets in our complex. My family was all in attendance on Christmas Day as we sat down to enjoy our Turkey roll but otherwise traditional Christmas feast. I hope all my readers enjoyed their holidays too and are looking forward to what we all hope will be a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year 2024.

Below is one of my favourite Christmas Carols…”The Huron Carol” which is also called “The Canadian Carol”. It was written by Saint Jean de Brébeuf, a Jesuit Missionary to what is now Ontario [near where I was born and grew up in Sudbury]. He wanted to adapt the story for the First Nations he preached to and he did a wonderful job of it.

If/when I grab a few more spare moments in the days ahead…as I usually do…I hope to do a “2023 wrap-up” post along with some New Year’s predictions for 2024. In the meantime, let’s all kick back and enjoy these few days of peace and tranquility suspended between the maelstrom of geopolitical events that we have seen over the past 12 months–and that are coming at us like a freight train through the tunnel of 2024!

  1. I bought my sister a Staub Dutch Oven for Xmas. If you don’t have a Dutch Oven you need one. The French don’t call it a Dutch Oven though. It’s a Staub brand.

My sister owns a Beagle that was rescued from a lab (nightmares of Fauci). The Beagle is very gregarious but has no table manners at all. The Beagle stole my whole plate of chocolate cake!

The world is spinning out of control with the weak and criminal Biden. We will start a World War. There is no doubt.

  2. Hi UPSHOTKNOTHOLEGRABLE

I will have to look into the Dutch Oven concept. My storage space for appliances is almost used up, however. My youngest son got us a Nespresso Coffee machine which is now taking up precious space on our coffee bar counter. I must reluctantly admit, however, that the coffee it produces is delicious. As for your sister’s beagle stealing your chocolate cake. Chocolate, along with garlic and turkey meat are some food items that dogs should definitely NOT be eating. Hope the beagle didn’t ingest too much of it.

My youngest son brought his big rescued Husky Dog Bella [who was born on a northern Manitoba Indian Reserve] and she was the “life of the party”. Running around our small cabin and even jumping up on the beds with her muddy paws. Whatever. It was Christmas, so nobody said anything.
