UPDATE: “No CUSMA – No Booze-ma” – Wab Kinew

UPDATED: August 22, 2026 at 8:18 Well, I had a few hours to absorb the shock of the trade tectonic shift that impacted Canada and the US and found this to be the best written analysis so far:

Mark Carney doesn’t stop the United States from driving negotiations over a cliff | CBC News

“…A neighbour that can’t be taken for granted

…In an interview with the New York Times in July, a senior official in the Trump administration said American foreign policy might be summed up by the idea that “people can no longer take the United States for granted.”

“I think that’s one thing that’s really important at a structural level that this administration is doing differently, in what is perhaps a tough way sometimes, but also in a rational and common sense way, which is to accurately price the partnership and relationship with the United States,” explained Elbridge Colby, a senior adviser to the secretary of war,  “both in terms of access and things like AI or energy, but also in terms of leverage things like burden-sharing issues or tariffs, etc.”

It might be fairly argued that Americans derived innumerable benefits from the world as it was — and that the United States was aided by the co-operation and assistance of numerous countries along the way. But the suggestion here is that the benefits of a friendly relationship with the U.S. were not accurately priced, and so other countries were getting too good of a deal.

Other countries might quibble, but they might agree that the U.S. is no longer to be taken for granted — that it can no longer be taken for granted that the U.S. will stand by its traditional allies, that it can no longer be taken for granted that the U.S. will abide by its own trade agreements, that it can no longer be taken for granted that the American political system will produce presidents like those who governed between 1932 and 2016.

In a recent appearance on the Herle Burly podcast, Conservative political strategist Kory Teneycke offered his own analogy for what Canada is now experiencing. The era of long-term trade agreements is over, he said. The tumultuous uncertainty of this moment is not merely a passing “cold.”

“We’re managing a chronic disease. This is diabetes,” Tenycke said. “We’re going to be doing insulin checks and taking injections on a daily basis for as long as this administration’s around and probably for the next several. We’re in a long-term cycle of trade protectionism and might-makes-right bullying and reshuffling of the international order in a fundamental way.”

In an analysis of this week’s negotiations, Patrick Leblond, a professor of business and public policy at the University of Ottawa, compared Canada and the United States to two drivers speeding their cars at each other in a game of chicken.

The common denominator in all of these analogies might be that none of them sound like a fun time….”

Greencrow comments: In ALL of the analysis of the Trumpian United States of America there is one crucial factor that is ALWAYS LEFT OUT OF THE EQUATION–the fact that the US is occupied and run by the same people who destroyed Germany under Nazism, Russia under the Bolsheviks–and who are now destroying Palestine and Iran under the Zionist Israelis…and probably many other nations as well…since the beginning of human civilization. These are the ones I call the Psewdos.

Nobody ever factors that in–so all analyses are deeply flawed

BREAKING NEWS: Ottawa/Washington Trade Talks collapse resulting in coming North American Trade War

Good Saturday morning Beloved Sentients. Today the other shoe hit the bedroom floor. The US/Cdn trade talks collapsed and now we Canadians are headed for an out and out dollar for dollar trade war with the United States.

First, the latest headlines and then a bit of backstory and links as to how this played out.

Carney says Canada ‘walking away from a bad deal’ as 50% tariffs hit | Globalnews.ca

Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada is “walking away from a bad deal” with the United States and will match 50 per cent tariffs “dollar-for-dollar” in industries like steel and dairy.

“Carney confirmed he was “reluctantly” adding tariffs that would add costs in some areas for Canadians, but insisted they were necessary to retaliate against United States President Donald Trump’s levies.

“We cannot accept what they’ve offered, and we will not give what they asked,” Carney declared in Ottawa on Saturday morning.

The prime minister said talks had taken place with the United States over the past year, and accelerated in recent days. He suggested his team had been skeptical, but optimistic a deal could be reached.

Carney said Canada’s trade negotiations had taken place knowing the United States’ “signature was written in pencil,” with negotiators still hoping to “strike a fair deal” with its southern neighbour.

“We can’t control the storm that blows in from Washington,” the prime minister said. “We can, however, chart a new course by building Canada strong at home and diversifying our trading relationships abroad.”

He added the United States “asked too much and offered too little” as negotiations dragged on this week…”

FULL SPEECH | Carney explains why Canada suspended trade talks with U.S. | CBC.ca

Greencrow continues: Readers watch the Carney speech above and see how a real leader talks to his or her people. Contrast this with the insane speech patterns of the Trumpster below the border.

Also watch Wab Kinew below as he provides Canada with a Pitt Bull fighter persona for the coming battles: Please review the material below and I will have final comments to follow:

‘No CUSMA, no booze-ma’: Kinew – Winnipeg Free Press

“If I were leading the country, I’d fight. I think we should fight this guy,” he [Wab Kinew] told the station.

Multiple news reports have said the deal will see the U.S. lower sectoral tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum. Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal both reported the duties would be reduced from the current 50 per cent levels to 25 per cent.

“It might be lower, but … it’s way higher than it was two years ago before Trump was in office,” Kinew said.

He said Prime Minister Mark Carney is also asking premiers to return U.S. liquor to their shelves in return.

Kinew said Manitoba still has to see some details, but if the booze goes back on shelves, his government reserves the right to pull it back off again if U.S. President Donald Trump changes terms.

Canada, U.S. negotiators meeting again to finalize trade deal ahead of new tariff deadline

Trump wants to expand America as full list of 8 targeted territories is exposed

Greencrow continues: Folks, Canada has to do what Carney says in his speech above IMO if we are going to survive the coming “distraction war” that the US has declared on us–to distract from the Iran fiasco and the domestic losses coming in November.

Here are some other initiatives that Canada MUST implement if we are to survive:

1.

Canada needs to join BRICS!

Yes! Canada needs to bury the stupid hatchet with Russia and form an alliance to preserve the North from the US fascists. So much could be gained [or lost!] by forming an alliance with Russia. Just look at the information below for one example:

Polar Silk Route

Canada’s future economical boon?

From What Does it Mean

Russia and China are forging ahead on the “Polar Silk Road” that will bypass the war ravaged Middle East entirely, as was revealed: “Russia’s state nuclear giant Rosatom, operator of the Northern Sea Route via the Arctic, said on Friday it had issued permits for seven Chinese transit vessels to sail to Europe via the NSR”—and is a Northern Sea Route through the Arctic whose ships are protected by Russia’s largest in the world icebreaker fleet.Trump wants to expand America as full list of 8 targeted territories is exposed

*********

Greencrow continues: Canada’s north can only be protected by forming a close military and economic alliance with Russia and China–the two largest founding members of BRICS. India is also a founding member of BRICS and Carney announced we would be signing a big Trade deal in the Fall with India. Is this the beginning of the BRICS membership bid? We can only hope so. Carney needs to drop the support of the USSD fomented proxy war on Russia via Ukraine.

One of the purposes of this Ziofascist Ukraine war was to divide NATO–so the US could pick off vulnerable members–like Canada and Denmark.

2.

Canada also needs to formally join the European Union. If you look at a map showing Canada Greenland and the EU as one geopolitical entity it is formidable to say the least. We need to join the EU….because…

This is war, folks.

CNN report says US continues to threaten retaliation if Canada retaliates on the 50% tariffs! They are doing exactly what Trump threatened at the outset in January 2025–economic strangulation in order to take Canada over. This has been unabated.

3.

Greencrow concludes: There will be lots of fall-out. As a side-bar, and as a lifetime hockey fan–I do believe the NHL is dead. Canada needs to withdraw our teams from what is really an American hockey league–and form our own CNHL.

I’ve been saying this for at least 25 years and hope as a silver lining on the dark horizon–the US behaviour has FINALLY made everyone see that Canada–the country that invented hockey–finally needs to form our own coast to coast to coast national hockey league with teams in every province and territory.

What? Wait?! Even Latvia and Estonia have their own national hockey leagues!

For God’s Say folks, make it right…

and stay tuned,
